Paul AdamsManaging Director, Carrus Corporation

Carrus.jpgAfter qualifying as a civil engineer in 1969 in Wellington, Paul developed a career in civil engineering contracting, representing the New Zealand Contractors Federation on various committees, while maintaining his own practice in civil engineering with a heavy involved in Arbitration and Contract Law.
 
From 1990 to date, under his company Carrus Corporation Limited, he has built up one of the largest land development operations in the Bay of Plenty, producing 200 to 300 lots per year and selling on average 200 lots per annum.
 
In the past few years, he has extended his business nationwide including areas such as Rotorua, Taupo, Hamilton, Palmerston North and Wellington.

 

Paul BainesManaging Director, Finchley Holdings

Paul has a background in financial and strategic management and extensive experience as a director of New Zealand organisations.
 
He is or has been a director or board member of Telecom New Zealand, Fletcher Building Limited, Gough Gough and Hamer Limited, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and New Zealand Institute of Economic Research.
 
In most instances Paul served on the audit committee for these organisations, often as the committee’s chair. Paul was previously chief executive officer of CS First Boston New Zealand Limited. He was chairman of the Enterprise New Zealand Trust from 1996 to 2002.

Charles Bidwill

Charles Bidwill.jpgCharles Bidwell began his career as a sharebroker while studying at the University of Auckland. He worked in stockbroking firms in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom before returning to New Zealand to rejoin his old firm which became Statham, Kay, Bidwill & Co.  That year, at the age of 26, he became a member of the Auckland Stock Exchange.
 
Charles was involved in the campaign to establish private radio by the then pirate station Radio Hauraki.  He underwrote a public issue of shares to obtain a broadcasting licence and as a result private radio was born in New Zealand.
 
In 1969 Charles set out on his own and formed Bidwill, Wakeman, Paine & Co, based in Auckland. 
 
In the early1980s Charles teamed up with investment banker Alan Gibbs and for the following ten years was prominently associated with several of the country’s best known companies of the ‘80s and ‘90s including Ceramco, Bendon, Baycorp and Steel & Tube. During this period he was a foundation Member of the Sports Foundation and was on the organising committee of the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.
 
Since 1997 he has been based in the UK just outside London, mainly involved in foreign exchange and bonds.

Geoff BlampiedChief Executive, Aon New Zealand

Aon.jpgGeoff Blampied.jpgGeoff is chief executive and managing director of Aon New Zealand and chairman of Aon Fiji and Aon Vanuatu. He is also a member of the Aon Australia Holdings Boards and the Aon Asia Pacific Holdings Board.

Geoff and a team of 14 other executives and staff were instrumental in establishing Aon in New Zealand in 1996. From that start-up situation, with a staff of 26 and first year revenues of $3.3M, Aon New Zealand today employs in excess of 600 staff in 63 offices and in 2009 earned revenues exceeding $110M.

Aon New Zealand is by any measure the largest insurance broker and risk manager in New Zealand.  Last year Aon's Insurance Division handled premiums of approximately NZ$500M on behalf of 195,000 clients. 

Geoff's career has been entirely within the insurance industry; the early stages were in underwriting roles with insurers and the latter part has been with insurance brokers.

He is an Insurance Associate by examination, attending various management courses with PA Management Sydney, IMD Lausanne, Insead Fontainebleau, and the Kelloggs Institute in Chicago.

He joined the group in 1979 and apart from a five-year period which included time overseas, he has spent his entire career with the company. He held a range of senior executive and general management roles in a number of the Freightways businesses prior to his appointment as managing director.
 
Freightways is a leading provider of express package services throughout New Zealand, with complementary businesses servicing the information management and business mail sectors.
 
The group's origins date back to 1964 through New Zealand Couriers, a pioneer in the express package industry in New Zealand.

Mobility Research Centre Ltd is now a company predominantly focused on providing products and services for people with disabilities.  Michael has been instrumental in the development of both New Zealand and international standards and continues his role on the International Standards Committee.
 
Michael has also been involved in the New Zealand marine industry for some 15 years.  His roles include past director of IMTEC and founder and former director of the Auckland International Boat Show.

Nick Calavrias retired as chief executive of publicly listed Steel & Tube Group in April 2009 after 18 years in the position.
 
He was appointed executive director of Steel & Tube Holdings in September 1990, following the acquisition of Acorn Pacific Corporation Group of which he was managing director and a major shareholder. In July 1991 he was appointed chief executive of the Steel & Tube Group.
 
Nick is a former vice-chairman of the New Zealand Business Roundtable, an accredited member of the Institute of Directors, a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, and a delegate to the annual Australia - New Zealand Leadership Forum since its inception in 2004.
 
Since his retirement from active management roles, Nick has become a non-executive director. He is currently chairman of: Contract Resources Limited (a company providing a number of industrial services predominantly to the oil industry), Clearwater Construction Ltd; D & H Steel Construction Ltd; and is a director of Rangatira Ltd (a company with a mix of passive investments as well as a diverse portfolio of private equity investments including Auckland Packaging Company Limited, Contract Resources Limited, Heller Tasty Limited, Polynesian Spa Limited, Tecpak Industries Limited, and Dunlop Living Limited.

Cooper and Company is a private investment firm that acquires and actively develops assets on a long-term ownership basis. Matthew’s role includes day-to-day responsibilities on the Britomart and Mountain Landing projects in the areas of leadership, legal design, structuring, compliance, strategy and reporting.
 
He practised as a lawyer at Bell Gully from 1984 to 2005, including 13 years as a partner and four years as chairman. His legal expertise is in commercial property, construction and large-scale infrastructure projects. During his time at Bell Gully Matthew was involved in a number of major private and public projects in the Auckland region including the Auckland Rail Project, Britomart Transport Centre, Botany Town Centre and Auckland City Hospital.
 
In 2004 he helped set up the New Zealand Council of Infrastructure Development, where he served on the Board until 2008, including as chairman from 2006 to 2008. NZCID was established to advocate for improved public and private sector provision of infrastructure development.

Bill DayChairman, Seaworks

Seaworks.jpgBill Day.jpgBill Day built up Seaworks, now a global marine services company, following forays into a wide variety of business ventures.
 
He started out as a property developer and mussel farm owner. He has also owned a ten-pin bowling centre, and worked as a management consultant and full-time fireman.
 
Seaworks, which grew out of a small scuba diving operation, was started in 1983. The company now employs 140 staff, typically working on about ten active projects throughout the world. Seaworks specialises in areas such as onshore cable landings, laying fibre optic cables, support for oil platforms, marine salvage and running underwater vessels.
 
In 2000, Bill was winner of the New Zealand Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.  He is a director of the Wellington Marine Conservation Trust and chairman of Unicom, an organisation assisting universities to get entrepreneurial ideas from the lab to early commercialisation.  He also contributes throughout the year to university MBA and business development programmes.
 
Bill is a keen skier, mountaineer and pilot. He has devoted four summers of his life (so far) to searching for the shipwreck of the General Grant.

Dr Roderick DeaneChairman, Pacific Road Group

Roderick Deane.jpgPRG.gifDr Roderick Deane was chairman of Fletcher Building from 2001 to 31 March 2010. He is currently chairman of the New Zealand Seed Fund, Pacific Road Group, and a director of Woolworths in Sydney. He is also a patron of IHC NZ, having previously served as its president and on its board of governance.
 
Until June 2006, he was chairman of ANZ National Bank, Telecom Corporation, Te Papa Tongarewa, City Gallery Wellington Foundation, and a director of the ANZ Banking Group in Melbourne. He was a member of the board of trustees of MOTU (a non-profit economic and public policy research institute) until March 2007.
 
Roderick’s previous roles included chairman of the State Services Commission, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank, chief economist of the Reserve Bank, alternate executive director of the International Monetary Fund and chief executive of the Electricity Corporation and Telecom. He is a former vice-chairman of the Business Roundtable and has made major contributions to public policy.
 
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with first class honours in economics and a doctorate in economics from Victoria University of Wellington. The university awarded him an honorary doctorate of laws in 1999 and he was a professor of economics and management there between 2000 and 2003.
 
In 1994 Roderick was awarded the inaugural NZIER Economist of the Year award. He has been named executive of the year, executive of the decade and chairman of the year in the NZ Management Top 200 Awards.

tony falkenstein.jpgJust Water.gifTony Falkenstein has worked as an entrepreneur with multinationals and public companies, and now owns the majority share in publicly-listed Just Water International Ltd, as well as privately-owned Bartercard New Zealand Ltd.
 
He founded Red Eagle Corporation in 1987, a week after the share market crash, as a renter of fax machines. In 1989, he established Just Water as a subsidiary company. The company has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions. Just Water floated on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in 2005, and operates in both New Zealand and Australia.
 
Tony has a strong interest in entrepreneurship and business education in the secondary and tertiary sectors. He was the founder of the Onehunga High Business School and the Onehunga High Building and Construction School. Tony was inducted into the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame in 2008.

Bob has 40 years international experience in the motor industry, including 25 years as the CEO of Toyota New Zealand. Bob has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Canterbury University and post graduate qualifications in accounting and corporate governance.

He is a former president of the NZ Motor Industry Association, and has served on boards of many national organisations associated with finance, road safety, employment, and business excellence. He has also been a key supporter and advisor to New Zealand teams participating in the America’s Cup for the past two decades.

Bob was a founding member of the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development and has been a trustee of the World Wide Fund for Nature for the past 25 years, including past service on the WWF International Board in Switzerland and chair of the local branch.

In 1990, Bob was awarded the Queen’s 1990 Commemorative Medal for services to New Zealand, and in 2001 was appointed as an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to the Motor Industry.

He was awarded the MBE in 1987, and the Queen's Medal (Commonwealth) in 1990. He was the 1996 winner of the prestigious IABC Excellence in Communication Leadership award, the first time since its inception in 1961 that the award had gone outside North America. In 1998 Sir William was awarded Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in the Queen's New Year Honours List. He won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2003 and in 2004 was inducted as a laureate into the National Business Review/Minter Ellison Business Hall of Fame.  
 
Sir William has a strong and active commitment to the Waikato region. He is a major sponsor of the Rescue Helicopter, Waikato Stadium, Mounted Police, Gallagher Community Swimming Pool, Gallagher Hockey Centre and supported the establishment of the Performing Arts centre at Waikato University. He is also involved with many other civic and community organisations.

He has been involved in a wide range of manufacturing activities (bricks, lingerie, television sets, stoves, and refrigeration). He has run his own merchant bank and was a half-owner of New Zealand’s largest car dealership chain.
 
Alan put together the management buy-out of the country’s biggest publicly-listed freight, courier and security company and retained a 50 percent share in Freightways. He was a driving force behind the introduction of Sky Television to New Zealand. He co-led the syndicate that purchased New Zealand Telecom and undertook its complete restructuring.
 
Alan chaired a government task force to advise on the public hospital system and was chairman of the Forestry Corporation.

Dame Jenny Gibbs

Jenny Gibbs.jpgDame Jenny Gibbs has been on the Auckland University Council almost continuously since 1976, including two terms as Pro-Chancellor. She has just finished her term on council and been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Literature by the University.
 
Dame Jenny is a founding trustee of both the Auckland Medical School Foundation and the Auckland University Foundation. She is also founder and founding chair of the Patrons of the Auckland Art Gallery, the Auckland Contemporary Art Trust, founding trustee of the Arts Foundation of New Zealand, Foundation Board member and donor to the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and a long time member of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Asia Society, New York.
 
She is an active member of the Committee for Auckland and currently on the board of Sea + City, a company recently formed to develop a large area of Auckland waterfront.
 
In 2009 she received the Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
 
Dame Jenny has recently been appointed to a Ministerial taskforce on Philanthropy.

Recently, Owen formed OTS Logistics Group Limited, a global provider of freight consolidation services, which took over the international agency management for NACA Logistics (USA) Inc.
 
The OTS Logistics Group operates through multiple brands worldwide including AFS, Brennan, Conterm, DCL, Export Freight Services, GPS and Vanguard Logistics and has 177 offices and agencies worldwide in over 105 countries.
 
Owen is known for his major support of several charities and non-profit organisations in New Zealand and overseas.

Previously, David was ANZ group managing director commercial for Australia based in Melbourne.

During his 30-year career at ANZ, David has held a number of senior executive roles in retail and commercial banking, including two years as managing director of UDC in New Zealand between 1998 and 2000.

David holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Monash University, and an Executive Masters of Business Administration from Monash University (Mt Eliza).

He is a past recipient of the FINSIA annual scholarship.

He is a founding director of the charity, Second Bite, a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia, and an associate of the Australian Society of Accountants.

 

Simon HullManaging Director, Allied Work Force Group

He has extensive knowledge of the on-hire labour market and has been instrumental in growing the business from its small beginning to its current market leading position.
 
Over the years Allied Work Force has acquired other companies and set up its own NZQS certified non-profit training school which supplies apprentices to the building industry under the MAC scheme. These now form part of the Allied Work Force Group Ltd for which Simon has overall responsibility. The recent appointment of a CEO to run the day-to-day operations has allowed Simon to focus on identifying strategic growth opportunities for the Group.
 
Before founding Allied Work Force, Simon was involved in small business management, horticulture and farming.
 
He was a Category Finalist in the 2004 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and was invited to participate in the Employment Summit in February 2009. Simon is in active dialogue with the government on employment and labour issues.
 
Passionate about yachting, Simon has owned and led the campaigns of a succession of race keelboats. His Transpac 52 ‘V5’ won the Coastal Classic Yacht Race in 2007 and 2008 and the Bay of Islands Race Week in 2009. He also competes in most of New Zealand’s offshore races.

Murray has over 25 years consulting experience primarily within the public sector, healthcare and energy industries. His professional focus has been on business and technology strategy and implementation of technology related change programmes.
 
Currently based in Wellington, Murray has lived in London and Singapore and has worked extensively throughout Asia over the past 10 years including Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.

Stephen Jennings.jpgStephen Jennings is chief executive of Renaissance Group, including Renaissance Capital, the leading investment bank in Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and sub-Saharan Africa. Born and schooled in Taranaki, he studied business and economics at Massey and Auckland, before joining the New Zealand Treasury. Later he worked with Credit Suisse First Boston before founding Renaissance Capital in Moscow in 1995.
 
Stephen has been ranked by London’s Financial News as among the top 100 most influential people in European capital markets and has been described by a fellow banker as the only foreign oligarch in Russia. Stephen Jennings is enthusiastic about the business and economic opportunities in some of the new, high-growth nations of the world. Most recently he has been involved in the enormous renaissance of sub-Saharan Africa where he has now spends much of his time.

Bryce WilkinsonActing Executive Director, New Zealand Business Roundtable

Dr Wilkinson is director of economic consultancy Capital Economics Limited, and has been author of a number of Business Roundtable studies and an advisor on and contributor to many of its projects. 
  
He has a strong background in public policy analysis, capital market research and microeconomic advisory work, and in recent years has worked on a wide range of public policy issues.

Dr Wilkinson’s work includes regulatory reform, the principles behind user charges, competition policy, property rights, securities regulation, tertiary education reform and reform of the water industry, roads, and accident compensation.

Prior to setting up Capital Economics in 1997, Dr Wilkinson was a director of Credit Suisse First Boston in New Zealand (now First NZ Capital). Before moving into investment banking in 1985, he worked in the New Zealand Treasury, reaching the position of director.

He was a member of the government's Regulatory Responsibility Taskforce, the 2025 Taskforce and the ACC Stocktake Group.

His reports for the Business Roundtable include: A Management Scandal? Interpreting Measures of Shareholder Value(2001); Constraining Government Regulation (2001); and Restraining Leviathan: A Review of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 1994 (2004); and A Primer on Property Rights, Takings and Compensation (2008)

Dr Wilkinson has a PhD in economics from the University of Canterbury. In 1977-78 he was a Harkness Fellow at Harvard University. He is a fellow of the Law and Economics Association of New Zealand.

Prior to founding TMNZ, Ian led the tax teams at Fonterra, the New Zealand Dairy Board and the National Bank. He is an investor and director in a number of software and R&D companies and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants’ National Tax Committee.
 
Ian’s other interests include spending time with family, sailing, windsurfing, and supporting micro enterprise in developing countries.

Joe La Grouw is executive chairman of La Grouw Corporation Limited, which was founded in 1952 and is based in Rotorua.

La Grouw Corporation Limited, through its subsidiaries, engages in the production, distribution, and export of homes and buildings, and building components.

It also manufactures and markets various engineered solid radiata pine components, commodity products and systems into New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Rim and the United States. The company produces various products, including laminated posts and beams, panels, and customised components. In addition, it produces solid timber kit homes from New Zealand.

Fletcher Building has five divisions: Building Products, Distribution, Infrastructure, Laminates & Panels and Steel with operations in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, North America and Europe. The Company has annual sales of around NZ$7 billion and has approximately 16,500 employees. 
 
Jonathan was appointed chief executive of Fletcher Building in September 2006. Prior to that, he was chief executive of the company’s Laminates & Panels Division based in Melbourne.
 
He has extensive experience in very competitive manufacturing businesses through his management and leadership roles at Pacifica, Visy and Nylex before joining Fletcher Building in 2003.
 
Jonathan has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree from the University of Melbourne and an MBA from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Rob McLeod is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of Ernst & Young Oceania, which includes Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.
 
Rob has been a specialist tax practitioner for over 25 years with experience in all facets of taxation.  His primary specialisation has been New Zealand corporate income tax, but he has also had extensive experience in trusts, estate planning and international tax.
 
In 2008 Rob was appointed as a member of the Capital Markets Task Force and as Lead Negotiator for Te Haeata (Ngati Porou Treaty Settlement Committee). 
 
Rob previously chaired the NZ Business Roundtable (2002 to 2010), the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants Tax Committee and was Chairman of the Government’s Tax Review 2001.  He was also a member of the 2009 Tax Working Group to assist Government.
 
Other New Zealand appointments he has recently resigned are:  Member of the Maori Economic Development Ministerial Taskforce, the Independent Ministerial Advisory Panel for the Defence Review and the National Infrastructure Advisory Board.

Douglas MYERS.jpgSir Douglas Myers has a BA in History from Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge. He later studied business at Harvard University and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate, Doctor of Laws, from the University of Auckland in 2005.
 
Widely known for his leadership roles in the brewing industry, Sir Douglas is one of New Zealand’s most successful businessmen. He began his involvement with what would become Lion Nathan in 1965, when he was appointed CEO of Campbell & Ehrenfried, following in the footsteps of his father Sir Kenneth Myers and his grandfather Sir Arthur Myers. After the creation of Lion Breweries and then Lion Nathan, he played a leading role in the company for over 15 years, ultimately as chairman.
 
Like his father and grandfather Sir Douglas is a significant supporter of education, business, sport and the arts. In 2000 he created the Douglas Myers Scholarship which provides an opportunity for students who have already distinguished themselves academically to attend Cambridge University in the hope that graduates will return to New Zealand to become leaders in their chosen fields.
 
Sir Douglas was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business and the community in the New Year Honours announced on 31 December 2009.

Roger Partridge, a litigation partner at Bell Gully, was appointed as the firm’s Chairman in 2007 after three years leading the firm's litigation department. He is recognised for handling large-scale litigation and in developing strategies for successfully resolving complex disputes.

He was elected as chairman of the New Zealand Business Roundtable in August 2010.
 
Roger specialises in company law and securities litigation, competition law matters and commercial contractual disputes.  He is also experienced in banking and finance litigation. He regularly appears as counsel in major commercial matters in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
 
Roger is the Director of the Legal Research Foundation, New Zealand’s leading private law reform body and is a member of the editorial board of the New Zealand Law Review.

Alan has a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Technology Sydney and a Master of Technology Management degree from Griffith University in Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants and Chartered Accountant with the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has formerly served as chairman of YouthSkills NZ and on the board of the Cement & Concrete Association of New Zealand.

Alan has worked in large manufacturing companies for over three decades having worked for Alcan Aluminum, Smorgon Steel, Amcor, Fletcher Challenge, Fletcher Building and OneSteel prior to joining Hall’s. He has completed a variety of other senior management courses at Columbia University (New York), University of NSW (Sydney), Auckland University Business School and Ashridge Leadership Programme.

Bob Robertson.jpgInfinity.jpgBob has been involved in international trading and marketing for over 25 years, establishing and running businesses in many parts of the world.  In 1993 he developed TV Media Holdings Limited, which by 1997 had full trading operations in 12 countries in Asia, the UK, the US, Russia and South Africa.
 
The company was the largest owner of television advertising time in most operating countries and traded worldwide with yearly revenues of $145 million and 900 staff. It had its own television commercial production houses in the USA, Singapore and the Philippines and owned two 24-hour satellite channels. TV Media also owned and operated over 400 retail outlets and 10 telemarketing centres in its 12 operating countries. The company was merged with Pacific Media of the UK in 1999 and listed on the London Stock Exchange main board.
 
With his wife Jen, Bob then founded Infinity Investment Group in Wanaka, to take advantage of the region’s opportunities in property development and investment.
 
Infinity Investment Group is one of New Zealand’s most innovative property development companies involved in developments with an end build-out value of over $1 billion, involving residential communities, building whole towns, hotels, apartments, offices and transportation infrastructure.

Bob was awarded the Ernst & Young Master Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2006.

During Peter’s business career, he held directorships in a range of public and private companies engaged in wholesale and retail distribution, food processing, transport, tourism, banking and finance, life insurance, manufacturing (plastics and textiles), agribusiness, telecommunications and airlines.
 
From 1985 to 2001 Peter was a member of the executive committee of the Australia and New Zealand Business Council, serving as chairman between 1988 and 1990. He is a retired fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand, and a distinguished fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Until early 2009 Peter was on the executive board of trustees for the Enterprise New Zealand Trust, an organisation which promotes an enterprise culture among New Zealand school students.

He is the founder of Aoraki Corporation, the developer of the LINC and Jade programming languages, and Jade Software Corporation. Sir Gil’s latest venture is Jolly Good Software Pty Ltd, which he launched in 2006.
 
He is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and the New Zealand Institute of Directors, an honorary fellow of the New Zealand Computer Society, an honorary member of the Royal Society of New Zealand, the chairman of the Christchurch City Mission Foundation and a founding patron of the Royal District Nursing Service in Victoria, Australia. Sir Gil is also a former director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and a past president of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He chaired the government’s E-commerce Summit in November 2000 and was appointed chairman of its E-commerce Action team in 2001.
 
In 2000, Sir Gil was awarded a knighthood for his services to the computer industry and the wider community. That year he also won the New Zealand Computer Society's supreme award for the most outstanding contribution to computing in New Zealand over the last century. In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate of science from the University of Canterbury to recognise his contribution to technological innovation. He was inaugurated in the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2008 Sir Gil received the NZX Flying Kiwi Award and joined the PricewaterhouseCoopers New Zealand Hi-Tech Hall of Fame.

Before Unisys, IBM was his employer for fifteen years. He started in sales, progressing through the ranks to the role of global director, Telecommunications Services based out of New York. Jon graduated from the University of Sydney with Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) and Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) degrees after which he joined Mobil Oil Corporation as a process engineer at Mobil's Adelaide Refinery.

Jon spent seventeen years with Mobil in a wide range of management roles including engineering, operations, strategic planning, supply, trading, marketing and sales in Australia, the United States and Asia. Jon's last role with Mobil was as Chief Executive Officer of Indo Mobil Ltd, a Joint Venture between Mobil and the Government owned Indian Oil Company, which was based in New Delhi.

In 2000 Jon joined Santos Ltd, Australia's second largest oil and gas company, as General Manager of the South Australian Business Unit which contained the bulk of the company's assets and production. During his time at Santos Jon held a number of senior executive roles which included responsibilities for safety, environment, exploration, appraisal, development, operations, sales, corporate affairs and support services.

Jon was the Santos business leader responsible for the development and execution of Santos' Coal Seam Gas strategy which through an aggressive acquisition and appraisal programme enabled Santos to accumulate sufficient gas resources to develop the industry leading Gladstone LNG project.

In 2007 left Santos to establish and operate a private equity fund which acquired a portfolio of interests in a range of sectors.

Jon holds dual New Zealand and Australian citizenship and is married with four children. His interests include family activities, motorcycle touring, travel, the arts and golf.
